Petition in high court over replacement of ‘Sindh’ with ‘Sindhu’ in national anthem

MUMBAI: A petition has been filed in the Bombay high court seeking direction to the state government to withdraw geography text books in which Sindh has been replaced in the national anthem with Sindhu. These textbooks were earlier withdrawn following a serious faux pas after Arunachal Pradesh was missing from one of the maps of India. The 16.5 lakhwithdrawn text books had also contained the word Sindhu instead of Sindh.

Send policemen not registering FIR to jail, Ministry of Home Affairs tells states

 Policemen refusing to register FIRs will face up to one year in jail with the Centre issuing strict instructions to states to prosecute such cops.

The Home Ministry told the states and Union Territories to clearly instruct all police stations that failure to register FIR on receipt of information about any cognisable offence will invite prosecution of the duty police officer under IPC Section 166A (public servant disobeying law) which will invite imprisonment up to one year.
